Boston a walking city
TRAVEL, Boston, MA, USA – Sleep!! Just came in from San Francisco, and a day before that, Melbourne, via Sydney. San Francisco, one of the premiere creative cities, and fully of friendly and helpful Americans as well as thriving design and art/craft scene.
On the American Airlines overnight ‘red-eye’ flight I flew, had a lovely chatty Bostonian lady next to me, tried to sleep, but in old seats that recline only 20 degrees, impossible. Flight crew more friendly than most BA crews though.
Breakfast was in hotel, Westin Copley Place, quite good, Pancakes excellent. But very sweet. And bacon in fatty strips unlike lean Australian bacon.
Tried to sleep in hotel, but housekeeping were making a symphony of noise. This is a noisy hotel, even in a corner suite room. Funnily enough last time, in August it was excellent. Maybe a management change. Seems conference only.
Got a shoeshine, never had a better shoeshine than downstairs – mirrors! The virtue of a good shoeshine to lift a man’s spirits must not be under-rated.
Lunch: Au Bon Pain, a simple steak sandwich and yoghurt.
Walked the city a little, I love Boston. Went not too far, just up Boylston; and around. Boston is a global walking city.
Pedestrians have right of way here to an extent not seen in other cities, whilst it may annoy drivers, I suspect we shall see more of this, it is far better than driving a thousand feet to the shops.
(Note: all innovative cities are walking cities, without stopping, how can you be inspired? Vienna, Paris, Boston, Melbourne, New York, Leipzig…)
And, Boston is friendly! Back to room, work on Global Innovation Review 2007 promotion in room. Order room service dinner, brown chicken displayed nicely, but tasting rather like grilled rubber arrives, I try to digest half of it.
