Boston, Irish City with USA food issues

TRAVEL, Boston, MA, USA — Room still noisy, but not as much as before after I complained.

Breakfast: Late, working in morning. Americano coffee (like a long black or doppio espresso with hot water), as usual Starbucks coffee doesn’t taste that great, but does the job.

The filter Starbucks in the room however is magnificent. I’m on about 5 shots to wake up here. Blueberry scone tastes good, but anything might right now.

Go out, walk around; doing some further research into local media and magazines.

My newspapers didn’t arrive (hotels!), went to Borders, they have one of the world’s best business book sections in this store, tried ‘Seattle’s Best Coffee‘ in borders, not bad.

Tried to avoid buying books, couldn’t help it.

I love Borders, but also wandered into some small book stores. Didn’t buy!

Lunch later that day: Au Bon Pain again, best one is behind the Four Seasons.

Left it late, so had the steak hot sandwich, nice enough. But as usual, even ‘healthy choices’ here have corn by-products, starches and sugars.

Noted yoghurt is barely edible, being full of sugars. Wash it down with a Perrier, in the terrible sin of a plastic bottle. The artist in me says, what happened to glass?

At hotels, complained again to another hotel service manager: noisy, toilets didn’t flush, internet wasn’t working as someone had disconnected the cables (lucky I once ran an IT firm, cables I can do!) and finally someone rang me to tell me I had ‘Do Not Disturb’ on the door… then someone else knocked!

Changed rooms to the same room on a better floor. She sent some bad wine.

Why is it that we have the ‘complain and rectify’ culture in USA and Australia?

This serves to lower costs for hotels, but means you don’t enjoy the experience. Cost-savings don’t go to guests. And in Europe, where great hotels are greater, the hotels can be a lower tariff with more inclusions than the USA.

Picked up my wife, Eva, from airport. Great to see Eva!!! She’s been overseas too at a family wedding, and flew from Heathrow (Dante’s 5th circle of Hell).

Dinner: is a local Irish pub, in the entrance of The Lenox hotel.

Rather nice Irish Beef Stew and a Samuel Adams.

Boston has a large Irish-American population and roots, Kennedy was from around here. The local Samuel Adams beer is one of my favourites, & good for Europeans instead of Stella/Heineken.

Finally, sleep, only got a few hours the night before.
