Art is the inspiration for innovation. Culture is important.

I just looked (last night) at a Coke ad for Coke zero, and wonder how exactly is that innovative? More Fried Chicken innovation we don’t need.

Last night, I went and saw a members exclusive viewing of the Australian Impressionism art exhibition National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Australia.

Over the long weekend in Australia, Queens Birthday holiday (yes Australia shares the UK monarchy), for innovation inspiration I visited the National Gallery of Victoria International and the Astor Theatre, an art deco beacon, and a very enjoyable and inspiring cinematic experience.

The post of all this Melbourne Inspiration and Innovation is here.

And the Index of cities I have visited in the Travel Journals, so you can choose your own innovation & inspiration location.

And the Albanian Bush & innovation visit post yesterday attracted some comment. You know at times journalism contains broad sweeping inaccuracies, reported so often theybecome true. A lot of it is due to looking at other cultures through an American, English or other ’skewed’ filter (which of course is only natural).

Artistically Albania has a small but interesting art gallery in Tirana, and there are some quite good religious iconic art that survived the communists, dictator Hoxha destroyed most churches, but some icon art was preserved. Much was lost however in World War 2. there is not much inspiration in Tirana, but like all those emerging from the yoke of communism, soon the shameful concrete block towers (prisons for the citizens) will come down.

Just as we in the west start living in horrible high-rise concrete prisons called apartments. What is with the commercial high-rise apartment buildings being slapped together as ‘exclusive apartments’ in Melbourne and moreso Sydney. Collective eyesores. No skirtingboards, bare minimalist design, oppressive carpeting, expensive appliances and marble counters, but no cornices or skirting boards. Lest we think modernist is dead, modern property developments prove you too can have a ‘box’ for a ‘reasonable’ price. Property developers should not decide our artistic future.

This is my main blog of course, the travel journal is more a journal, but I always provide a link when I update that.

Ciao For Now.
