Melbourne shooting update - Innovation in Crime.
The Melbourne shooter yesterday killed one and critically wounded two, as well as injuring another person ealier, was part of the bikie gangs culture. Outlaw bikie gangs need to be regulated, as they are responsible in large part for the drugs and guns in this country.
We tolerate them where western European countries would not. police need to be allowed to interrogate, try and lock-up the bikie gangs. They need disbanding. they could start by closing strip clubs, sleazy bars and brothels in places like King Street.
Giuliani Policing is the innovation
In New York, Giuliani proved preventing petty crime, reduces major crime. FULL STOP. People who buy drugs get sucked into a drugs culture. People who spray graffiti habitually, people who shop-lift. But when a weapon is involved then it is really serious, and the question should be asked if this guy has weapons offences, why is he not in jail?
As usual however we will all sit on our hands wondering how this could happen, because no one has the balls to pass the legislation to lock known criminal bikie gangs ALL up.
It’s not innovation in this case, it’s common sense. Ban bikie gangs (like terrorist organisations) and lock up any of them who have committed a crime. Turns out this shooter is a known criminal. We need to clean up these scum there is no nobility in them.
Sympathy for the Devil: Social Issue
Turns out most baby boomers have smoked too much dope and seen Easy Rider too many times. Crime is easy to solve. Sack all the consultants and introduce Giuliani style policing on any infringements. more police on the streets, less parking tickets. Faster criminal trials for repeat offenders. Worked in New York. It’s also common sense.
Of course no state govt in australia has the balls to actually do anything for fear of upsetting apologists and petty criminals who vote, and some sob story on today Tonight.
So the problems lies with us accepting tacitly criminal behaviour of bikies as somehow larrikin, when in reality it is criminal.
Oh well, as long as that attitude persists, more of the same stupidity I guess.
Innovation Punished in Australia
Governments who givern for the majority have to use the majorities social views.
The real problem in Australia, is that we criticise any change, so governments are taught the best way to stay elected is to not change anything. Kennett was punished for changing things, and being an innovation change agent. Carr was not punished for the state of the railways, schools & hospitals when he left office.
If you’re a politician which would you rather be?
Oh well, this change agent knows it would take balls to introduce this policy and ride out the today Tonight (and other local current affairs) sob stories.
But Howard (for his faults) has proved one thing, that innovation in public policy can be pushed through by riding out the storm and ensuring that the public broadly agrees with the change (to the level it is summarised on the TV news and talkback radio).
This also applies to America and other large democracies, but it’s harder at the federal level due to the size of the US government.
The answer then is leadership in explaining policy.
On the streets of the decidedly nervous Melbourne!
