Time Management & Innovation in How you Fill Your Time!

My good friend Dennis Price, Dr Contrarian, of Ganador has written a neat post in his blog some time back: http://drcontrarian.blogspot.com/

The truth about time management

There is nothing any person can do to change one aspect or characteristic of time; but that does not prevent a manager from accusing a subordinate that he or she has poor time management skills. But the fact of the matter is that in the modern society we are not time poor. We are option rich. We don’t have less time; we just have more options that we may or could exercise in the amount of available time. But it does not sound good to say we are option rich because that implies it is something that may be treated very simply. Ignore some options or refuse to exercise them. Simple

And that is the point about time.

We have too many choices. Too many options, that engage in a Darwinian survival of the fittest.

What do you fill your time with?

TV? Radio? reading gossip amagazines? Getting ‘tanked’ on Fridays?

Or is is soemthing like going to church, kids, family tuime, art, culture?

If you fill your mind with art and culture, with new stimulus, with doing then the rewards will be greater than passivity.

But the trick is to know what inspires you to innovate?

For me: Food, Architecture, Fine Art, Design, intellectual Conversation, Fine Wine, Broad reading of newspapers and magazines. Cinema can in the Hitchcock vein…

For you? Is TV really on that list?

 Then What un-inspires you?

For me: Concrete, small rooms, crowds, loud music, noise, M O B I L E telephones, and stupidity. So Big Brother (the reality TV Show) is not high on my inspiration list then.

An unclean polluted environment full of car fumes is not on my list of inspiring places either.

Getting back to Dennis’ post, but I think we need to look in short at culling our options down to

1) what inspires us, and

2) what we have to do for our families.

And that is it.

Now go home turn off the TV and cut up a credit card or two. ;-) Maybe your wife’s Amex :)

The trick is to fill your life with what inspires you to innovate…!

Blitzkrieg!
