Sailing ships key to climate change
ANALYSIS, Global – At one stage, the world of global shipping ran on steam.
But before that shipping and cargo ran on sailboats. Ships like the clippers ferried goods around the world, although their cargo was often human.

Sailing ships have a bright future once again. Because of climate change.
Why not create lighter weight sailing ships, and use light-weight sailcloth technologies. And light-weight shipping containers.
An innovation would be sailing ships. A further innovation would be light-weight freight ships powered by sails and solar sun energy. There are many recent scientific inventions that could be applied.
Of course we will have to reduce the volume of goods shipped.
But if we stop shipping useless plastic disposable goods, then the volume of shipping should decrease.
Oil creates a need to burn more oil, to ship the goods created from oil (ie. plastics).
This against a background of conservatism
I got the feeling that the nations at the climate change conference in Bali at current, were not that serious yet.
Despite Al Gore’s fiery attack on the USA, and Kevin Rudd’s committing Australia to some extent, nothing will change until Bush leaves government.
Of course, most see only the challenge to old industries, not the possibility of entirely new industries or resurgent infrastructure such as rail.
Simultaneously, Alan Moran was arguing in Australian newspaper The Age, once again, that individual cars are the most efficient form of transport.
There is a lack of practical eye to the massive opportunities we have to both create a cooler climate and spurn new industries.
As usual, new, reasonable and innovative ideas do not get excepted by government.
And they look to the same old people in the same old groups.
The same old entrenched oil and coal companies serve the same old interests.
I hope Al Gore can inspire the leaders to change.
But the current US administration of Oil Men will probably have to leave first.
There are massive opportunities for new industries. I have many ideas in this area, but we need a voice and support to do something.
Not more of the same.
Take care,
Christopher
