Kosovo independence to halt Peace

COMMENT, Balkans –I hate ignorance.

And bad ideas in nice policy binders.

Kosovo independence for 2 million Kosovars is a bad idea in a nice binder.

There’s only 2 million Kosovars. Balance that against the population of the Balkans, many of whom are not for the independence, as they will be the ones likely dragged into a war.

As Bismarck once said, “Albania, it’s a geographic expression.” (well that’s what he said about Albania, but you get the idea about Kosovo - which is even smaller.)

Families like yours and mine will die in their 10000s in such a war.

And if the 20th century taught us one thing, it should be that families don’t profit from European wars, a few politicians do.

Russia is the force of leadership on this. They understand the region, not the Euro-crats and Americans.

The problem?

Reality is Kosovars are not seeking independence. They are seeking amalgamation. With Albania. This has been reported in major media repeatedly.

Leaders of the Kosovar independence really want to join with Albania. EU likes the idea too.

Why is that an issue for families?

Well frankly Albania, is not homogeneous. It’s Christian (about 30% according to locals, not ‘official’ figures). As well as moderate Muslim and Kosovar (in the North).

These facts comes direct from Albanians, not Lexis Nexis… (where journalists get their facts from)

So, Albania is not 100% Kosovar. So we are not re-uniting a country that was once united. California was Mexico last century, should we reunite them?

Many educated muslims do not want Albania broken up, but because the Bush brigade support Kosovars, Kosovo feels ’strong’.

The US government, of course, are following their usual mish-mash academic theory of ‘ethnic self-determination’, but as usual nobody but people in their intelligence agencies probably can find the place on a map.

Don’t you distrust ’smarty-pants’ young white boys with Ivy-league degrees and no experience, who ’specialise’ in foreign affairs?

I know I do. Always too smart by half. (notice I didn’t say intelligent…)

At least Bush has been to Albania, but his speech showed that he didn’t understand that Albanians and Kosovars, are not interchangeable. Perhaps they don’t tell him much…

And media use of the term “ethnic Albanians” has been somewhat of a PR coup for the Kosovars. The term is a distortion, it refers to borders of 90+ years ago.

By the same definition I am an ethnic Englishman, and if you go far back enough an ethnic Frenchman or ethnic Austrian. See story.

Didn’t US policy work out well in Afghanistan in the 1980s?

Stopped the Soviets but now the same guys the US trained to fight USSR launch September 11 and fight others in Chechnya and even Kosovo.

Do you know the mujaheddin the US trained are now actually in Kosovo? They committed some of the worst crimes of the Balkan wars.

A fact not often reported when the EU go on about how bad Serbians are.

The rational explanation is that the EU, being the big gorilla in the cage, just want Serbia to toe the EU line.

And the EU seems so eager to ’solve’ the Kosovo problem, they simply think it might be easier to administer, perhaps?

Or perhaps the cynical explanation I outline shortly.

First, let’s see what happens, with a scenario of amalgamation or independence.

In the first half of 2008, thousands of Serb families lose their homes.

Serb families are persecuted by muslims, including extremists (the Kosovars gave Muslim terrorists free citizenship).

At the same time, now the politicians of Albania wants to join Kosovars, forming a larger nation. Which, is much easier for the EU to administer.

But of course, the Kosovars become the new seat of power, leading to persecution of those in the South of the enlarged state. Predominately, Orthodox Chrisitans.

Tirana, capital of Albania, in the middle joins the North for political power. The politicians have dreams of greater power, not the people.

The Albanian politicians are aware that most of their own citizens do not want to join Kosovo. Albanians just want to be part of Europe, not part of a war.

Sometime after in mid-2008, that escalation invites Serbia, Greece, Macedonia and Bulgaria to interfere to protect what are basically ethnic Greeks, Serbs and Macedonians.

Greece and Macedonia have not got good realtions, leading to possible conflict there.

And the ultimate political outcome of Kosovo-led Albania is a muslim extremist foothold, as the more extreme Kosovar muslims push out the moderate muslims in Albania.

And who wins out of all this?

Not the US. Not Europe.

The same old European foe. Turkey.

One analysis, is that this conflict is far older than some Euro-crats can understand, despite all their wizz-bang analysis, charts and ’smart’ thinking.

Do I think Eurocrats are stupid?

No.

What they have been doing in Europe, Arabia and the Indian sub-continent for years is using one group to fight another.

So here is a cynical, and long-sighted, and probably at least partially correct analysis of EU thinking.

First, Britain’s thinking on India. India fights Pakistan, and thus by proxy the Ottomans, sorry, Turkey.

And not when I say Turkey, I do not mean average citizens. The average citizen wants to live his or her life, get married, have kids and live safely.

I mean Turkey’s leadership elite. Turkish politicians and religious leaders, have ambitions for a global empire of Muslim religion. Like many leaders they can’t leave things well enough alone. They want more power… cue the music….

Muslim, Turkish and Iranian people are perfectly nice. And normal. Like Christians. But as usual, their leaders want more.

Further the Soviet State has fought the northward sweep of muslim religion for years. The problem is the non-secular nature of the Muslim states. Now Russia has relinquished it’s Southern borders to weaker states.

Euro-crats at the top levels know this, and creates an enemy Serbia, to fight another enemy Turkey (behind the Kosovars). They play one side against another.

But the families suffer in those countries. Serbs suffer. Albanians suffer. Kosovars will suffer. Romanians, Bulgarians and Greeks perhaps too.

In reality nobody wins.

No families win. And that’s what matters.

If I was a cynic, that is what I would think smart Eurocrats at the very top are doing.

But what about the families like yours at the bottom?

Christian and Muslim families.

Don’ let the media tell you Serbians are to blame.

The policy of Euro-crats, Turkish and US governments are.
