- Review your data
- Make a multi-option plan to solve your data problem
- Agree on the plan to solve the problem with you
- Explain data science options in plain English
- Work as part of your team
- Defer to you for final decisions
2ThinkNow data analysts and data scientists have worked at 2ThinkNow on data projects for major projects. These include some of Australia's and US top public companies, US silicon valley tech firms, property agencies, MBB consulting firms, governments at different levels, charities and small business. Many of our data science techniques (especially at the senior level) which our contractors are trained in were original and pre-dated the term 'data science'. Our Innovation Cities™ Index city ranking was established in April 2007. 2ThinkNow have been sponsored by Austrade to expand into Europe via the Landing Pads.
Our data science research funded by AusIndustry Australian Government programs for Research & Development in data science, big data and algorithms.
Our data scientists come to your office in Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra. Different experience levels and rates available.
Why Our Data Contractors in Australia
You need domain knowledge for the role. All our data contractors have a relevant Masters degree from a university usually in Melbourne or Australia, or a prominent university overseas, OR 200%+ of the study period in experience.
You also need practical skills to solve the problem. For this reason, all of our data contractors have clocked serious professional development hours (minimum 250 hours) in data techniques from 2THINKNOW.
You want people in your office to fit with others in your teams. You don't want people who do not fit. Recruiters only use a 15-75 minute screening interview (which candidates can bluff).
Our data contractors have spent time under practical real world conditions wrangling data under the direction of 2THINKNOW.
These 4 reasons make our data contractors the best in the Sydney, Melbourne and Australia labour market. We have spent the time to make it so. Why take a risk?
Want to hire our data contractors full time? It's a recruitment flat fee. Ask.
Got data chops? Want to become a data contractor? It's pretty intense real world stuff. Are you ready? Ask here.

I need a quick data team member in Melbourne or Sydney can you help? back to FAQ
Yes, usually we can help with data scientists and junior data scientists at short notice - as little as a day (engagement must be secured by corporate credit card for estimated time). Best way to find out? Contact us now. Don't wait!
Can your data scientists untangle others' algorithms & formulas back to FAQ
Yes. We can document and set out the business logic in the formula, document it, check it with you and then rework in Excel, Python, R or other platforms. Even the complex formulas, and even if you lost the original data scientist.
What about advanced data visualization with graphing and charts in Tableau or PowerBI? back to FAQ
2ThinkNow Data Scientists have produced advanced graphs (including scatter graphs, secondary axis', line Graphs, profit, revenue, EBITDA, indexes) for some of the world's leading public companies, investment banks and finance firms. We can assist. Also Microsoft PowerBI dashboards (composite of charts and metrics). We can also used advanced Excel if you want.
What about data visualization via charting with Python or R? back to FAQ
2ThinkNow Data Scientists can use Python or R or possibly other languages for charting. But bear in mind solutions written in code (that do not absolutely need to be in code) take 200% or longer to updated, and are less easily shared with non-technical users. Many data scientists will walk around with a code hammer looking for a code nail, because they like the hammer. We prefer to keep costs lower if possible, by visualising in tools that non-technical users can work with more easily. Of course, that is up to your call.
If you have large Big Data Sets which are replicating all the time processes, then coding makes a lot of sense. Please ask.
Can 2ThinkNow integrate or link data sources into PowerBI, Tableau or other data visualisation tool? back to FAQ
Many users of Excel ask this question, yes we can add Excel, APIs, and other data sources. Bear in mind data sources might need some transformation to be useful when loaded. A spreadsheet does not always have serious data structure unless designed according to specific principles.
What about coding for data science in Python, R, or VBA (Visual Basic for Applications/macros)? back to FAQ
While these days it is usual to program in Python (Big Data) or R (stats typically), we can also do VBA. 2ThinkNow data scientists have built a full range of custom Financial Microsoft Excel VBA solutions. These have includes Add-Ins, modules, custom forms or Excel database front-ends. We can program everything from raw-data massaging in Excel, to complex reporting routines, or data-capture & consolidation macros.
What are the sort of data science project areas you have done remotely? back to FAQ
Our data scientists have specialised in infrastructure, mobility (and MAAS), transport, automobiles/personal mobility, city rankings, emissions, tourism, startups/tech, education, retail and other global data sets remotely. Data projects include those for Deloitte UK and Savills UK (both published) and also Fortune 500 companies that are household names (remain confidential).
Can data scientists convert my Microsoft Excel flatfile or CSV files into relational enterprise databases (like MySQL or SQL Server)? back to FAQ
Yes. Your Excel files can be merged into an easy-to-use, powerful database servers on enterprise platforms. In some cases they can be linked to PowerBI/Tableau directly so a correctly edited file can continue to be used - with some caveats. Really servers are better.
What about databases from Hadoop, NoSQL, MongoDB or others?back to FAQ
Our Data Scientists can also work with these platforms for Big Data. We don't suggest that non-relational databases are the best choice if you have a choice in the design of your system. We suggest MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgresSQL. Yes we can also work with various other databases and online data services like AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
Beware of long lists, usually there are a few core tools that will become apparent once you commence. It's simpler to focus on core tools (if possible), as it creates less work in maintaining the environment. Sometimes IT departments are struggling with working arund many legacy systems.
What about our IT or HR department's list of data science skills? Which one's are actually necessary? back to FAQ
We suggest using the best least complex tool for the job. Our data scientists can handle usual data science environments. This is often Excel, Python, R, Tableau/PowerBI, a large database (or many), some online databases and various SAAS services. But this can include a series of other seemingly impenetrable buzzwords like homomorphic encryption or Spark.
If you don't know where to start in a corporate environment, start with Excel and Microsoft.
Can you just answer a quick data science question? back to FAQ
2ThinkNow do not provide quick answers to IT/tech issues - we prefer to provide planned data engagements and contracting. While we are happy to arrange an analyst call back to discuss your viable data science project, our data scientists cannot provide hourly rate support on what often turn out be complex data science issues.
Those seeking DIY help should try the numerous bulletin boards or twitter (a good resource).
Why do my IT providers take so long to provide data science solutions? back to FAQ
Most IT staff are network, programmers, admins or help-desk people. They may know many technical aspects of applications and even have programmed, however data is typically less than 20% of their job. It is a distraction for them from their core competencies.
Even when someone is 'full stack' developer usually they have a front-end (design), coding or back-end (data storage) bias - and these in themselves are all separate jobs from a top notch data scientist. And the psychology of a programmer is different to an analyst is different to a leader in the data field.
This is why we take time to understand your situation, and arrange a data scientist with the correct skills to suit, who can solve your challenge fastest (and at lowest cost).
Expert data scientists with the right skills will solve problems generalists cannot.
We're on a tight deadline, and in Australia/NZ -- can 2ThinkNow data scientists help? back to FAQ
Yes. We have started planning data science solutions at 6:00 PM on Sunday before a kick-off meeting on Monday starting 8.00 AM.
We deliver working data science solutions rapidly (using RAD, agile, Lean principles with modified waterfall for some rigour*) -- but contact us as soon as possible before the deadline.
*Project Management geeks know that Agile/Lean often leads to unstructured and spaghetti outcome delivery - so you need some rigour but the Prince 2 etc stuff is unworkable for anything but large bureaucratic projects where delivery is second to process/tracking.
Where in Australia do 2ThinkNow provide Data Science contractors? back to FAQ
2ThinkNow group have worked on Data Science projects in NSW, Victoria, ACT and Queensland and overseas.
2ThinkNow regularly provide rapid data science and analysis services in 3 Australian capital cities Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and also Canberra - as well as regions such as the Gold
Coast, Parramatta, Newcastle, Wollongong. Also, Adelaide, Hobart, Launceston, Darwin, Cairns, Fremantle & Perth are available by prior arrangement on separate terms. This applies also to Auckland and Wellington for larger engagements.
Can Data Scientists work remotely on my data projects? back to FAQ
Yes! - almost anywhere -- including overseas -- in fact:
- We charge less to work remotely (typically it is easier to schedule our staff)
- Upwards of 90% of our data analytics work is delivered via email.
Most of our US clients have never been met face-to-face (and comprise 50% of our billables in 2017-2018).
The only conditions are that your touchpoints have solid general computer knowledge, good English & reliable systems access. Secondarily, projects with defined scope work best remotely. Thirdly, we will not manage outsourced staff remotely as this difficult to do without being in your company (and having the hiring/firing authority of directly workng for your company).
Why do I need help -- can't I do complex data science all inhouse? back to FAQ
For detailed, critical or multi-user data science solutions -- unless this is your core competency, it is more effective to use our professional service. Like most endeavours a correct start from professionals costs less, and is lower risk than fixing a botched job. Data science is the core competency of our contractors. You cannot easily fixed botched data projects, it is cheaper to start again in many cases.
We also offer a new Data Science training at your offices.
I am IT developer/company, will 2ThinkNow subcontract to us? back to FAQ
Yes we can handle as little or as much of the job as you wish remotely or onsite, with rates and timelines agreed in advance. Our contractors can work as your data specialist, and you can continue doing the IT tasks you do best.
